About TAPC

TAPC fills an unmet need, as it would represent the only open resource center within Saudi Arabia and MENAT (Middle East, North Africa and Turkey) region for new product development, rapid prototyping and manufacturing of mechanical, electronic and electro-mechanical systems.

This need is filled today either by internal industrial facilities that are limited technically and not open to general users or by outsourcing to Europe, Asia or North America which can be costly, time consuming and jeopardizing intellectual property in some cases. Furthermore TAPC fits strategically with the vision in Saudi Arabia of increasing small and medium enterprise to build a more knowledge-based economy.

KFUPM is the regional leader and significant global player in the development of intellectual property; however, there is no current resource to capitalize on this intellectual property to bring technologies to the industry.

TAPC, in collaboration with the other TTIE centers, would provide this critical function. Other current resources within KFUPM, such as the FabLab Dhahran, provide concept and ideation development for basic prototyping in a do-it yourself environment; however, an industrial prototyping facility with full design capabilities and quality control preproduction prototype demonstrations for field deployment is lacking. The technical plan for TAPC is comprehensive in scope, providing end-to-end capability from R&D prototypes to demonstrations for industrial application establishing the first regional translational R&D center.

Catering for researchers need to advance basic research to applied research.
